01 · The Problem

Africa's fintech is imported, adapted, and priced for markets it was never designed for.

Hundreds of millions of Africans remain outside the formal financial system because the products designed for them were designed elsewhere for higher-income users, smartphone-first behavior, and stable currencies.

The continent's builders are ready. Africa's developer population has grown faster than any other region for five straight years.

The infrastructure they build on has matured. Bitcoin, Lightning, stablecoins, and mobile money now form a workable stack for African financial products.

What's missing is the machine that produces founders who know how to combine them for African users at scale.

45%
of adults in Sub-Saharan Africa remain unbanked (World Bank Findex, 2021)
$205B

4.7M
African software developers, growing about 21% a year, the fastest rate worldwide
02 · The Solution

A venture engine: not a training program, not an incubator, a pipeline.

LAB is the machine that turns African developers into founders, and turns founders into the companies building the financial systems Africa actually needs. Four stages, one pipeline, measured on economic outputs.

The Pipeline
Stage 01
Select the right founders
Rigorous selection identifies developers with the technical depth and commercial instincts to become founders. Not everyone graduates. This is where quality begins.
Stage 02
Form them technically and commercially
Bitcoin, Lightning, stablecoins, mobile money, agent networks, informal-to-formal transitions, and African regulatory realities. Both engineering and market fluency.
Stage 03
Incubate their ventures
Structured incubation transforms founder theses into shipped products with paying users or committed pilot partners. LAB takes equity in every venture.
Stage 04
Connect to capital and markets
Ventures flow into a network of aligned capital partners, corporate anchors, and government relationships. LAB is the top of the funnel for African financial infrastructure venture capital.
03 · Market Context

Two waves converging. One window.

African fintech is entering its second decade of institutional capital, while stablecoin and Bitcoin infrastructure have finally matured to serve the continent. Founders who can operate at that intersection will define the next decade.

04 · What LAB Does

Three pillars, one engine.

01 · Formation
Developer formation
Cohort-based technical and commercial training designed specifically for African financial infrastructure builders. Bitcoin, Lightning, stablecoins, mobile money, agent networks, and regulatory context.
  • 16-week structured cohorts
  • Selection-based, not open-enrollment
  • Every graduate ships something public
02 · Incubation
Venture incubation
Selected cohort founders enter structured incubation to transform theses into companies. Technical mentorship, commercial guidance, network access, and small pre-seed capital.
  • LAB takes equity in every venture
  • Ventures ship real products with users
  • Pipeline to aligned capital partners
03 · Infrastructure
Open-source infrastructure
Every cohort produces public GitHub artifacts and tooling. The LAB Open Source Builders Fund on Artizen supports downstream builders across the Bitcoin ecosystem.
  • Public curriculum & LMS
  • $38K sponsor-match pool, Round 2 open
  • Five named tracks for builders
05 · Traction

06 · Business Model

Seven streams. Three years to self-sustaining.

How LAB earns
Recurring

Founding Backer Circle

Twenty founding members at $25,000 annually. Members receive equity in LAB, right of first look at every incubated venture, carry participation, and quarterly council seats. Opens after Cohort 1 delivers.

$500K
Annual recurring at full subscription
Programmes

Sponsor-funded programmes

Seats are bought by corporates, NGOs and government agencies, not by students. A bank sponsors 100 seats for financial inclusion; an NGO funds 300 for women in blockchain. Hackathons are corporate-funded in exchange for early access to talent.

50-70%
Of Year 1 operating costs, target
Infrastructure

LAB-owned hubs

Venue rental, co-working memberships for alumni and startups, paid corporate training, and hosting fees from partners. Owning rather than renting is what turns a cost centre into an asset, the model ALX and Web3Bridge already run profitably in Lagos.

Three hubs generating monthly income
Recurring

Node-as-a-Service

Local Stacks and Bitcoin node access sold as API subscriptions. A free student tier, a paid tier for startups, premium SLAs for fintechs and exchanges, and infrastructure partnerships with ISPs.

LAB-built infrastructure

LAB builds on the same rails its founders learn. SmartX Finance is the first: fourteen agent skills, five reviewed and registered upstream on the AIBTC registry, write transactions proven on Bitcoin mainnet, and paid endpoints charging per call today over x402. V1 is in audit before public launch, and finishing it is part of what this raise funds.

Paid endpoints on mainnet
Portfolio

Venture equity & carry

LAB takes 5–10% equity in every incubated venture, plus demo day sponsorship and success fees when portfolio companies raise. Carry structure shared with Backer Circle members.

10-20×
Return on capital at portfolio maturity
Institutional

Advisory, anchors & grants

Curriculum development for universities, regulatory and youth-programme advisory for governments, and paid reports for corporates. Alongside named corporate anchor contracts and ecosystem grants: Artizen, Btrust, Spiral, OpenSats, and a Stacks Endowment application in year two.

07 · The Founding Circle

Twenty founding believers. Deep alignment.

Structure

The Founding Backer Circle is closed at 20 members. Members are not passive capital.

They anchor LAB's next decade with recurring commitment, take a small equity position in the venture engine itself, gain structured access to every venture LAB incubates, and shape strategic direction through a quarterly council.

The circle opens after LAB's first delivered cohort provides documented proof of the engine's output.

What Members Receive
01
LAB entity equity - 10-15% distributed across the circle, roughly 0.5-0.75% per member
02
Right of first look at every LAB-incubated venture with priority allocation on standard investment terms
03
Portfolio carry - 15-20% share of LAB's proceeds from venture exits, distributed across members
04
Quarterly Council seat shaping LAB strategic direction. Not startup governance
05
Panelist & mentor role during incubation cycles and hackathons
06
Founding Backer status - permanent recognition, named partner standing

Terms above are indicative and subject to final legal structuring. The Founding Backer Circle is not yet open and nothing in this document constitutes an offer to sell or a solicitation to buy any security.

Sample flow

How one successful venture exit flows through the LAB engine and back to members.

Step 01
$10M
A LAB-incubated venture reaches acquisition or Series B at a $10M valuation-equivalent exit event
Step 02
$1M
LAB's 10% equity position converts to $1M in proceeds from the exit
Step 03
$200K
20% carry share ($200K) distributed proportionally across the 20 Founding Circle members
Step 04
$10K
Each member receives approximately $10K carry from this single exit, against a $25K annual commitment alongside their existing venture equity positions

Illustrative only. Actual returns depend on portfolio performance, timing, and specific venture outcomes. LAB's portfolio target is 10-20 incubated ventures over five years, with expected 2-3 material outcomes producing the majority of returns.

08 · The Founder

Building this because no one else was going to.

Founder
Dr. Eniola Samuel Olawunmi
Founder & CEO · Lagos, Nigeria

Five years of building African developer ecosystems in Bitcoin infrastructure. Onboarded 300+ developers to Stacks before founding LAB. Trained across smart contract engineering, DeFi infrastructure, and autonomous agent design.

Delivered institutional grants. Structured formal partnerships across corporate, university, civic, and government relationships. Built and shipped 16 open-source autonomous DeFi agent skills, fourteen of which form the SmartX suite, five of which won the AIBTC × Bitflow Skills Competition. Ranked #8 of 657 agents on the aibtc.com earnings leaderboard, with verified on-chain earnings from 13 separate payers.

LAB is not a first attempt; it is a refined one built on the operational lessons of what actually works when forming African founders and connecting them to global infrastructure.

11 · The Ask

$3 million, raised across three channels, to build Africa's venture engine for digital financial infrastructure.

What we are raising

$3M in total capital deployed across three to five years. Three channels: $1M via Artizen matching-pool activation over 3-5 years ($100K minimum per season), up to $500K per year via the Founding Backer Circle, 20 members at $25,000 minimum annual commitment, filling over the period, and the balance from corporate anchor commitments and ecosystem grants.

We are opening the Founding Backer Circle to individuals and entities who understand African market realities and want to anchor a serious institution being built for the next decade.
